In 2014, long-time friends and seasoned educators Carlos Smith and Kendall Jackson envisioned a gourmet popcorn business, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey. Their passion for popcorn brought them to open PopCulture Gourmet Shops in 2018, despite initial challenges like funding and market entry barriers. The duo’s commitment to quality and unique flavors led to the creation of a beloved Chicago snack landmark, known for its over 50 varieties of delicious, Chicago-style popcorn.

Evolving with Flavor and Community

Transitioning from PopCulture to Popology Chicago Popcorn in 2022 under new ownership, Carlos and his wife Okemia, with backgrounds in education and haircare, infused the business with fresh perspectives and renewed dedication. This rebranding wasn’t just a name change but a pledge to enhance the quality, community engagement, and innovation the brand stands for.
